Oramet - SR

Metformin HCl USP

Composition : Metformin hydrochloride USP 500 mg & 1000 mg Tablet.

Indication : Non-insulin dependent diabetes when diet has failed and especially if the patients is overweight. Metformin HCl can be given alone as initial therapy, or can be administered in combination with a sulphonylurea or insulin. In insulin dependent diabetes, Metformin HCl may be given as an adjuvant to patients whose symptoms are poorly controlled. It can be also used in polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Dosage and administration : Adults : The usual starting dose of Metformin HCl SR tablet is 500 mg (1 tablet) once daily with the evening meal. Dosage increases should be made in increments of 500 mg (1 tablet) weekly, up to a maximum of 2000 mg once daily with the evening meal. If glycemic control is not achieved on Oramet SR-1 gm once daily, a trial of Oramet SR-1 gm twice daily should be considered. Polycystic ovarian syndrome-500 or 850 mg three times daily. or, as directed by the physician.

Use in pregnancy and lactation : Metformin has been assigned to pregnancy category B by the FDA.

Packing : Oramet-SR-500 : 5 x 10's tablets in blister pack.

Oramet-SR -1gm : 6 x 5's tablets in blister pack.
